I've got a 2016 Passat 2.5 that's been in the family since new and it's always been a solid commuter for getting from Sharjah to Dubai and back but the last couple of weeks the air conditioning has been playing this really annoying game where it'll start off perfectly cold when I leave my apartment in Al Taawun and I'll be thinking great today is a good day and then somewhere around the twenty minute mark right when I'm getting onto the E311 the air from the vents just slowly starts getting warmer and warmer until I'm basically just circulating ambient air and the only way to get it cold again is to park and let the car sit for an hour which is obviously not happening when I'm on the highway. I had a guy at a garage near the BMW Road hook up his gauges and he said the pressures looked fine and the compressor was engaging and maybe it was just a weak compressor clutch but he didn't seem super confident and I'm not about to throw parts at a guess. I've been reading on VW Vortex that sometimes the RCV valve inside the compressor fails on these cars and causes exactly this kind of gradual cooling loss once everything heats up and it's a relatively cheap fix if you find a shop that actually knows these systems instead of just quoting a whole new compressor job. I've been searching around for a Sharjah Volkswagen AC Trusted Service Workshop  that can actually diagnose this intermittent cooling issue properly with the right tools and maybe pull the compressor and check the valve without charging me dealership money for what might be a few hundred dirham fix. Anyone else with a Passat or a Jetta dealt with AC that fades out after twenty minutes and actually got it sorted on this side of the creek without just replacing the entire system out of frustration.

I know this is a long shot because how many people in Sharjah are actually daily driving a Rolls Royce but my uncle left his 2014 Ghost with me while he's in London for the summer and of course the one time I take it out to impress a client for a dinner meeting on Al Majaz Waterfront the transmission decides to start acting up with this really unsettling clunk when downshifting from third to second as I slow down for a speed hump and then again when I'm crawling along the Corniche looking for parking and the whole car judders slightly like it's not sure if it wants to be in first or neutral. The car only has about 70k kilometers on it and my uncle is absolutely meticulous with the service history at the dealer in Dubai but I'm not about to drive all the way to Sheikh Zayed Road with a gearbox that might leave me stranded halfway and I also don't want to be the guy who returns his uncle's pristine Rolls with a five figure repair bill because I ignored a warning sign. I've been reading up on the ZF 8 speed issues and apparently the mechatronic sleeve and the bridge seal are common failure points that can cause exactly this kind of low speed clunking and hesitation and if you catch it early it's not a full rebuild just a fluid service and a reseal but if you let it go the valve body chews itself up and then you're looking at a number that makes my eyes water just thinking about it. Anyone on this side of the bridge ever had to deal with a finicky transmission in a Ghost or a Wraith and actually found a shop that didn't make things worse or should I just bite the bullet and call a flatbed to take it to the dealer and accept whatever astronomical quote they give me for peace of mind.

I'll admit I've always had a soft spot for the F Type ever since I heard that V8 crackle echoing off the buildings in DIFC a few years back and now I've stumbled across a 2017 R coupe that's priced well below what I was expecting to pay, the photos look immaculate and the seller is a nice enough guy who says he's just moving back to the UK and needs a quick sale, but when I asked him directly about whether the rear differential had ever been serviced or if the supercharger coupler had been checked he suddenly went very quiet and changed the subject to the paintwork. I know these cars have a bit of a reputation for electrical gremlins with the infotainment and the active exhaust valves seizing up in our dusty conditions, but my bigger fear is the mechanical stuff that you can't easily see on a quick spin around Jumeirah Beach Road. I've been reading some old posts on the Jaguar forums where guys in the region recommend getting a proper Jaguar Pre Purchase Inspection in Dubai  because the dealership will charge an arm and a leg just to plug it in and tell you the obvious, whereas a specialist will actually crawl underneath and check the diff mounts and the coolant pipes under the supercharger which are apparently made of cheese. I guess I'm just trying to decide if this is a genuine bargain from a motivated seller or if I'm about to walk into a situation where I'll be on first name terms with a tow truck driver within the first month of ownership, anyone here actually bought a used F Type out here and lived to tell the tale without a second mortgage?
