I finished welding new sills and rear arches on my van. The metal is bare, I cleaned the seams. Tell me step by step what to paint it with and in what sequence so that rust doesn’t come out in a year?

Oh, this is a familiar topic, I struggled with this myself last fall. Did you treat the seams inside the cavity with anything? Because usually everything rots faster from the inside if the weld is not preserved with some kind of Nigrol or Movil.

The first and most important rule after welding is total degreasing and immediate protection of welds with epoxy primer, which creates a strong waterproof film and blocks oxygen access to the metal. It is absolutely impossible to apply ordinary putty to bare metal around the seams, since it absorbs moisture like a sponge, so first we put epoxy, then we level the plane with putty, prime again with acrylic filler, and only after that we proceed to the finishing stages. To clearly imagine the entire sequence of applying protective layers, sealants and learn about the correct temperature regimes for drying each body component, read about the technological https://autobodylab.com/servic…..-painting/, where the entire painting cycle is available and disassembled by practicing painters. Additionally, I recommend covering the sills from below with a high-quality anti-gravel coating (lamb) on a polyurethane basis – it perfectly absorbs the impacts of stones and protects fresh paint from sandblasting from under the wheels. If you make such a reliable multi-layered « pie » and carefully fill the internal cavities with liquid wax, the body will run without problems for the next five to seven years in any road conditions. The work is painstaking, but if you do it for yourself and according to technology, the result will bring a lot of pleasure and save a lot of money!
